Walking the Talking

WOW - How clever do I feel right now. I have got through Day one of DFI!!!

I have learnt so much, but most of all,  how it feels to be a learner in a world of language and concepts that are so foreign to me. How must my students feel..

One of the more impactful themes today was hearing about the beginnings of Manaiakalani and the gift of the name and the meaning behind that. It was wonderful to hear from Dorothy to set the background of Manaiakalani and the 'why' and 'how' behind it. So important. What brave pioneers.

I have discovered that actually I don't know nothing. I actually know more than I realised.. However in saying that the more I learn the more I realise that I don't know.   I am so open to this new learning and excited about how I can use this in my classroom as well as improving  my own skills as a professional and as a busy mum with children who are learning at a faster pace than me.

I  created today a lesson for tomorrow that usually I would have used post it notes or large sheets of paper which would have probably hung around for a while and never be looked at again. Today what I have created for my students is a tool that they can work on cooperatively, they have a record of their work and I can collate easily and print off. The students can also create something for someone else.

I have lots of little things to take away from today. I leave happy and filled up, eager to get back into the classroom tomorrow and show off!
